One of the biggest names in British collector cars,Triumph has been in business since the 19th century and they have produced a wide range of beautifully styled, sports cars and sedans. From the Triumph Stag and Triumph TR6, to the GT6, Italia, and more, the Triumph Motor Company’s aesthetics have evolved over the 1960’s and 70’s.
With that being said, we are going to take a look at some of the top Triumph Motor Company models of the 1960’s and 70’s. Let’s get started:
Triumph Stag-the Triumph Stagwas sold between 1970 and 1978. It was styled by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti and is considered one of Triumph’s greatest designs and one of their most sought after collector cars.
Triumph TR6- the Triumph TR6 is a six-cylinder sports car and the best-seller of the TR range built by Triumph when production ended in July 1976. Of the 94,619 TR6s produced, 86,249 were exported; only 8,370 were sold in the UK. Based on a consultancy contract involving Karmann, the TR6 closely resembled the Triumph TR5, but the back end was squared off.This is referred to as a Kamm tail.
Triumph TR7-manufactured from September 1974 to October 1981, the Triumph TR7 was initially produced at the Speke, Liverpool factory, moving to Canley, Coventry in 1978 and then finally to the Rover Solihull plant in 1980.
Triumph Italia- the Triumph Italia 2000 Coupé was built between 1959 and 1962, during which time 329 cars were produced. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the TR3 chassis and mechanical components were supplied by the Triumph Motor Company in the United Kingdom, and built by Alfredo Vignale in Turin, Italy.
Triumph TR250- the Triumph TR250 was built between 1967 and 1968 for 15 months, during which time 8,480 cars were built, all of which for the American market. Mechanically similar to the follow-on TR5 except for the fuel delivery system, the TR250 featured an all new Independent Rear Suspension system and astraight-six engine fitted with twin Zenith-Stromberg carburettors.
Triumph TR4- the Triumph TR4 was produced from 1961 to 1965 and was code named “Zest” during development.The car was based on the chassis and drivetrain of the previous TR sports cars, but with a modern Michelotti styled body. 40,253 cars were built during production years.
